I Love to Read Month – February
February is I Love to Read Month, and Parkhill School is excited to celebrate the joy of reading with a variety of engaging activities for students of all ages.
Throughout the month, classrooms and shared spaces are buzzing with stories, book talks, and special opportunities that encourage a lifelong love of reading.
On February 13, Parkhill School had the pleasure of welcoming Corny Rempel, radio host from our local Mix 96.7 FM, as part of our I Love to Read Month celebrations. Corny spent the morning reading two engaging books to our students, bringing stories to life with enthusiasm, humor, and heart. From the first page to the last, students were captivated. The laughter, wide eyes, and eager participation in the room made it clear — they absolutely loved it.
I Love to Read Month is a special time dedicated to celebrating literacy and nurturing a lifelong love of reading in children. Reading strengthens imagination, builds empathy, enhances vocabulary, and supports academic success across all subject areas. It also gives children the opportunity to see themselves in stories and explore worlds far beyond their own.
Visits like Corny’s make a powerful impact. When students see a well-known community voice who genuinely values books and storytelling, it reinforces the message that reading matters — not just in school, but in life. Corny’s willingness to spend time in schools throughout the month, sharing stories and encouraging literacy, speaks volumes about his commitment to our community’s children.
In addition to his visit, Corny and his sponsors generously donated $300 to the Parkhill School library. This meaningful contribution will help us continue building a collection that sparks curiosity, supports learning, and inspires a love of reading in every student who walks through our doors.
We are also grateful for community leaders like Corny Rempel who recognize the power of literacy and go above and beyond to support schools during I Love to Read Month. We wish him all the best as he continues visiting many more schools in the weeks ahead, spreading joy, stories, and a passion for reading wherever he goes.
We would also like to recognize our local public library, the Jake Epp Library, for their continued support of young readers. During I Love to Read Month, the library is offering a variety of programs and activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of books. Their commitment to literacy and community learning plays an important role in supporting our students both in and beyond the classroom. We encourage families to explore the library’s offerings and take part in the many exciting reading opportunities available this month.
Together, through school, home, and community partnerships, we are proud to celebrate reading and the many ways it connects us.
